New Companies House Identity Verification Rules – What Your Business Needs to Know

From 18 November 2025, Companies House will introduce new identity verification requirements for company directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and members of limited liability partnerships (LLPs).

This is a legal requirement under the upcoming Changes to UK Company Law, and it applies to all UK businesses – it’s not optional.

At CFO360, we’ll help you stay compliant and make sure your company meets all the new Companies House rules.

Who Must Complete Identity Verification

From November 2025, the following people must verify their identity with Companies House:

  • New and existing company directors
  • People with significant control (PSCs)
  • Members of LLPs

Later, these rules will extend to:

  • Individuals who file on behalf of companies
  • Limited partnerships
  • Corporate directors
  • Corporate members of LLPs
  • Officers of corporate PSCs

Why This Matters

The new verification system aims to:

  • Improve company transparency
  • Reduce fraud and misuse of corporate information
  • Strengthen trust in UK business records

If you’re a company director or PSC, you’ll need to confirm your identity directly with Companies House once the system opens.

Failure to comply could mean delays, penalties, or being unable to act as a company director so early preparation is key.

What You Should Do Now

To stay ahead and ready for the 2025 changes:

  1. Review your company details – Make sure all directors and PSC information is accurate and up to date.
  2. Prepare identification – You’ll need a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driving license, for the verification process.
  3. Keep informed – Watch for updates from Companies House as they release more guidance.
  4. Seek professional support – Talk to us if you’re unsure what to do next.
